What We Did
Today, we went for an outing to immerse ourselves in the sights and sounds of Wuhan’s historical places as well as beautiful sentries. We had to get ready by 7.45am and report to the Main Gate to board the Bus. We even had to pack our breakfast as we were running late.
Onboard, we had a Chinese speaking tour guide who only spoke in Chinese. Thus, Sasireika and I were finding it hard to catch up and understand what was being told. Thankfully, Sebestian and Hwee Ping translated for us, as and when they could.

We travelled to 3 Different and Unique Locations in Wuhan, marking our first step to learn more about the geographical landscape and cultural as well as the arts landscape in Wuhan. Not only that we also learned about the city life as well.

The 1st Location we went to East Tingtiao Lake, which was one of the biggest lakes in Wuhan. We boarded the tram and went for a 50 Minute tour of the entire lake. We made pit stops at historical statues and our guide gave us time to have our pictures taken against them. Following that, we tried our skills at archery and firing cannon at moving targets. I have not played Archery at all and had no knowledge about it. However, after trying it out, I am interested to know more about it actually. We also took several snapshots of the lakeside, its buildings and the people there as well. The place has a calming effect, in my opinion. I felt much more at ease after I left the Lake.

The 2nd Location we went to was the Hubei Provincial Museum, which was the National Museum of Hubei. Initially, I was taken back, when we told to declare our possessions, just like we had to do at the Immigrations at the airports. It was normal procedure followed by the officials there to ensure that we had no intention to cause any form of damage to the premises as well as staff and visitors. I learnt a great deal of history of the province came about, and what were the weapons, tools, utensils and other equipment that we were used in the past. I also understood the different aspects of the Chu Dynasty, ranging from jewelry, weaponry, architecture and many more. The exhibits on display provided a great insight of their lives back then. Through this visit, I am confident enough to say, that I know at least 40% of Wuhan’s History.

Following that, we went for Lunch at a famous street along the Wuhan area. I had to be extremely careful, as we were told that 90% of the food sold there was either beef or pork or both. I decided to settle for fried being the safest option but I also tried the other food that was available as well. I tried a great variety of food. It was a unique experience as well.
The last Location we went to Yellow Crane Tower, which was an historical Monument of significant importance especially during the Chun Dynasty. We walked up to the entrance of the tower as we were constantly asked by locals to hire them as guides for the tour of the Tower. The guide went through every stage of the tour from the foot of the Tower to the top; she covered every aspect of the History along the route. We were also told the story of how each part of the Tower came about. When we arrived at the highest point of the Tower, we were shown a spectacular view of the Tingtiao Lake and the City Area. We also headed to the Gift Shop, and I decided to get a few lucky charms with their names written on them for my siblings and my mother as well. It was indeed a spectacular and beautiful sight.

Following that, we returned to our Transport and headed back to the Campus. All of us were pretty exhausted from the long day trip, but we truly enjoyed ourselves as well.

After returning to School, we headed to our hostel for some rest before moving out for Dinner at the canteen. We ate the Fried Rice that we ate the day before as I had limited choices to choose from, especially when most of the food items contains Beef and Pork. After that, we headed out of the campus, and down to night markets that are on the far right of the campus. We headed to see what is being sold and to see the prices as well. We also checked out the prices of shoes and other products at the nearby shops as well. It felt good to take a walk, especially after a meal. As we returned to campus, we headed to the fruits stall and bought some pears and oranges to ensure that we strike a perfect balance, in our diet as well. We also bought some bread for breakfast the next day as well.

What We Think

I learnt a great deal of history and culture about Wuhan and its people. By immersing ourselves in such experiences, we are exposing ourselves to new knowledge and allowing ourselves to embrace one another’s culture.

When I first arrived at Wuhan, since now, the food has been very salty and oily. I feel that we would have to maintain a balance in our diet by having a greater variety in our food options and at the same time. Thus, we bought some fruits, bread from the shops in the Campus and other items from Singapore as well. This is to ensure that we are taking good care of our health.
